About

The Relatives are back at the Ashby Legion. Come on down and get your Christmas festive mood started off on the right foot and the other foot. Dance the night away with great friends and awesome music. The Relatives is a Mi’kmaw music group featuring lead vocalist Darren Stevens with his brother Robert on bass and cousin Tom Sylliboy on guitar, brothers Stan and Tom Johnson on keyboards and drums, and their cousin Derek Johnson accompanying Darren on vocals. For more than 30 years, they have performed across the Maritimes and in parts of Quebec and Ontario and released their first album, “Shining Star”, in 1999. The Relatives play an entertaining mix of the past and present in pop music from artists and bands ranging from John Cougar Mellencamp to the Eagles and Beatles. Along with their harmonies and unbeatable onstage energy, the band has a distinctive cultural style that gets audiences up on their feet to dance to many of their original songs like “Kwe’ji’juow” and “Nutepaqn”. Known for their harmonies and unbeatable onstage energy, The Relatives have been one of Cape Breton’s most popular groups for over three decades.
